Saddam Hussein Captured
On December 13, 2003, Saddam Hussein was captured. American troops captured him in a farm town near Tikrit by the Tirgis river called Ad Dawr. Tikrit was Hussein's home town. He was found in a hole in the ground about 10 miles from Tikrit that was somewhere six to eight feet deep. After Hussein was captured, his supporters went to see where he was captured. They talk to the American troops and say that Hussein was a good, brave man. This was the second time Hussein fled to Ad Dawr. Years previous, he went there after failing to murder Iraq's Prime Minister. Hussein was located because United States troops closely monitored the city, only letting people with permits go in and out and questioning local people. Eventually, some one told the Americans where Hussein was hiding. When United States officials found Saddam Hussein, he was bearded with matted hair. He used to be obsessed with hygiene. After he was captured, he was taken to the airport. Luckily he was not resisting the arrest. A soldier at the scene described him as "a man resigned to his fate". When interrogated, he was uncooperative. Hussein had a 25 million dollar bounty on him, but it is likely that no one will take it according to United States sources. Hussein was then put on trial and eventually determined guilty and was hanged on December 30, 2006.
